Abstract:
The microstructure, crystallographic texture and magnetic properties have been studied in a Cu-33 at%Ni substrate produced by cold rolling to a reduction of similar to 99% with subsequent annealing at 1000 degrees C for 1 h in a protective atmosphere. This treatment results in a strongly textured material, where the fraction of the cube {001} <100> texture is 99.8% and the fraction of boundary misorientations with angles greater than 10 degrees is only 5%. The material is shown to be non-ferromagnetic at typical operating temperatures for coated conductors. Furthermore, it is shown that a CeO2 buffer layer can be successfully deposited on the Cu-33 at%Ni substrate using dip-coating. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
