Abstract:
The impact of surface texture on the light extraction efficiency was discussed. Textured surface of light-emitting diodes(LEDs) can provide substantial improvement in LEDs, which is analyzed both theoretically and experimentally. The enhancement of the LED output depends on the surface condition. A P-side-up AlGaInP-based LED was patterned by using a dry etching process, and the light intensity of LEDs was increased by 20.1% at an injection current of 20 mA in a etching depth of 0.15 mu m and a periodic distance of 10 mu m mesh-type texture. The increase in light intensity is due to the reduction of the internal light reflection and the growing probability of photon finding the escape cone.
