Abstract:
Different from foreign specifications, slender sections are avoided to use by means of width-to-thickness limits in Chinese code. In particular, the plate buckling coefficient is constant to deal with I-shaped and channel sections. In this paper, based on 41 channels dimension data originated from Chinese standard code, the classical plate buckling theory and software CUFSM are compared under the circumstance of uniform compression. The results obtained from the two methods are always in good agreement. However, three sections cannot be solved by CUFSM. The average value of web buckling coefficients is 5.240. Since the interaction influence of elements is considered in these analyses, these data can be used directly in Direct Strength Method (DSM).
