Abstract:
To effectively protect Tai-he Palace in the Forbidden City in China, its aseismic behaviors were studied by finite element analysis. Based on typical constitutions of Tai-he Palace, its finite element model was built. By modal analysis, its basic frequencies as well as main modes were obtained; by response spectrum analysis, its bearing performances under 8 degree intensity of frequently occurred earthquakes were studied; by time history analysis, its displacement and acceleration response curves under 8 degree intensity of seldom occurred earthquakes were further discussed. Results show that basic frequency value of Tai-he Palace is 0.85Hz; its main modes are of translation, which have little relation between each other in level directions. Both its internal forces under 8 degree intensity of frequently occurred earthquake and its peak deformation under 8 degree intensity of seldom occurred earthquakes are within the permission scopes, reflecting its good aseismic performances. Besides, its constitutions such as tenon-mortise joints, tou-kung (bracket sets), free-standing column roots and so on are helpful for seismic response mitigation.
