Abstract:

In this work, an Al-Mn-Sb anode has been prepared for the alkaline Al-air battery. The energy efficiency and corrosion behaviors are investigated in details. The results indicate that the prepared Al-Mn-Sb anode exhibits high discharge voltage and peak power density of 1.206 V and 96 mWcm−2, respectively, with a small degree of polarization at high discharge rate (80 mAcm−2). It can also output high energy density and considerable anodic utilization of 3236 mWhg−1 and 90.0%, respectively. Such high discharge performance should be attributed to the micro-nano scale precipitates generated by the simultaneous addition of Mn and Sb, effectively activating the grain boundaries. The Al-Mn-Sb anode can be a desirable candidate for high energy efficiency anodes dedicated to high-performance Al-air battery cells meeting the demands of high-power/energy applications. © 2020 Elsevier B.V.
