Abstract:

Aging takes place in asphalt binder materials during the construction and service life of asphalt pavement and has a significant effect on their performance. The development of anti-aging technology is of great significance to improve the durability of asphalt pavement. In this study, four kinds of anti-aging modified asphalt binders were prepared. The rheological properties of different modified asphalt binders before and after aging were tested by dynamic shear rheometer (DSR). The chemical properties of different modified asphalt binders after aging were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR). Based on these, the mechanism of anti-aging was analyzed, and a more suitable high-performance anti-aging additive was selected. The results showed that the addition of 1#, 2# and 4# anti-aging additives improved the properties of unaged asphalt binder. The addition of 2# anti-aging additive (1%) has the best resistance to the increase of complex modulus, the reduction of viscous flow characteristics and cracking risk caused by aging. It can be attributed to their ability to inhibit the formation of carbonyl and sulfoxide groups in the oxidation reaction of asphalt binder aging. 2# anti-aging additive can effectively slow down the aging rate of asphalt binder, and has a strong applicability in the study of asphalt binder anti-aging technology. © 2022 the Author(s).
