Abstract:
The purpose of this paper is to propose a laser-acoustic-combination evaluation system for historical frescos damage detection. This article outlines a diagnostic test system and procedure with laser-acoustic combined method, advantage of which is remote and cause no damage to the artwork, and that is based on the frequency response analysis of the acoustic excitation of the wall vibration with laser vibrometer sensing. The detail of the test procedure for wall vibration and the system of the measurement instrument is described. Experiments were performed on a real artificial fresco in a historic curved vault. A two-dimensional map of curved surface vibration amplitudes is generated by measuring points by points on the surface. This false-color image is then processed through image analysis techniques to determine the location and shape of the damaged area. © 2021 IEEE.
