Abstract:

In this study, an innovative aluminum alloytube-timber composite column structure is proposed, which includes the outer aluminum tube, inner timber and mortar. Axial compressive test was carried out on the proposed stub columns, and the test variables included the tube thickness, timber diameter, water-cement ratio of cement paste, and the number of layers of CFRP.Failure modes, load-displacement curves, strength, stiffness, ductility and strain characteristics were analyzed. Results show that the final failure modes were buckling damage in the middle of the column and buckling damage at the end of the column. The load-displacement curve can be roughly divided into elastic phase, elastic-plastic phase, buckling phase, failure phase, and secondary rising phase. The different test variables have certain influences on the compressive behavior of the stub columns, and the timber diameter has the most influence on the bearing capacity, stiffness, and ductility. Finally, a calculation method for the ultimate bearing capacity was developed, the calculated values fit well with the experiment results. © 2022 Science Press. All rights reserved.
