Abstract:

Highway tunnels are an integral part of China′s transportation industry. Presently, the existing specifications for single item are rich, but the overall tunnel evaluation is missing. In this study, the current situation of global tunnel standards is analyzed and the notion of green building development is used as a reference to clarify the concept of green tunnels and their "human-oriented" connotation. Further, a green highway tunnel evaluation system is constructed that follows the eight aspects of tunnel design, tunnel construction, full-life cycle of tunnel operation, safe and durable tunnel structure, safe and comfortable driving in a tunnel, convenient evacuation from tunnel, resource conservation and utilization, and ecological environment protection. Based on the expert investigation results, weight of each level indicator is calculated using an analytic hierarchy process method, and the highway tunnel greenness evaluation grading is proposed. This will provide new ideas for popularizing the green concept, enhance the green consensus of industry participants, and promote high-quality highway tunnels construction in China. © 2022 The Author(s).
