Abstract:

In order to define the installation method of locking dowel for long span and long unit continuous beams bridges, the dynamic finite element model was built using the ANSYS with a railway bridge as the practical engineering example, which has a main bridge of (62.5+5×96+62.5)m. The four seismic wave were taken as excited wave and the non-linear dynamic time-history analysis was conducted, then the seismic response of continuous beams bridges with the different locking dowel amount were compared and illustrated. The amount range of locking dowel was developed based on the analysis results and the amount range was verified in continuous beams bridges with different height and different span. Finally, the optimal installation placement was studied base on the simulation analysis results. The results show that the locking dowel can significantly improve the seismic performance of long span and long unit continuous beams bridges, and the installation number of locking dowel can be selected in a wider range. When the number of locking dowel is less than the number of pier, the locking dowel is designed to be installed on the pier on both sides of fixed-pier and adjacent side pier can obtain the optimal damping effect. © 2016, Editorial Board of Journal of Huazhong University of Science and Technology.
