Abstract:
In this study, a novel flat plate solar collector with micro heat pipe array was proposed. One such flat plate solar collector shows many advantages, such as: much cheaper, absence of freezing, high pressure resistance, easy integration into buildings etc. A thermal performance experimental study was conducted, focusing on the collector efficiency. The results showed that the collector's maximum instantaneous efficiency is up to 83.1% and the total heat loss factor is 4.77. A CFD model was developed to analyze the fluid flow and heat transfer within the collector, the instantaneous efficiency was compared with experimental results and there is a good agreement. Optimal study was conducted for the heat exchanger with dry type by CFD simulation, and the results showed that the optimal mass flow rate is 0.1-0.2 kg/(m2·s), and the heat exchanger with fins has better efficiency at low mass flow rate than without fins.
