Abstract:
Shear tests were conducted on 9 ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete beams, in which shear span-to-depth ratio, stirrup ratio and level of prestress were chosen as analysis parameters. From the results of diagonal cracking characteristics, it is observed that with the increase of shear span-to-depth ratio, the failure modes transfer from diagonal compression failure to shear-compression, then to diagonal tension failure. However, the shear strength decreases with the shear span-to-depth ratio. The shear strength increases with the stirrup ratio and the strength of HRB500 stirrups can be fully used. Prestress can significantly improve the shear strength. Maximum diagonal crack width is less than 0.2 mm in serviceability limit states. Before the critical diagonal crack forms, development of diagonal cracks width is slow, but after that crack propagation rate increases significantly. The shear strength results of ultra-high performance fiber reinforced concrete beams by the existing code are too conservative. Based on the shear span-to-depth ratio, stirrup ratio and prestress, a shear strength computation formula is proposed. The analysis results of 17 beams by the presented method agree well with the test values, and the variation coefficient is small.
