Abstract:
To investigate the effect of low-temperature freeze-thaw cycles (-40–20°C) and chloride attack on the bond performance between steel/BFRP/CFRP/GFRP bar and concrete, 48 pull-out specimens were subjected to bond tests. The parameters included bar type and freeze-thaw cycles (0−150). Results show that, in terms of the different freeze-thaw cycles, the order of bond strength between the bar and concrete is: BFRP bar > CFRP bar > GFRP bar > steel bar. Meanwhile, 150 freeze-thaw cycles combined with the 15 days of chloride attack lead to at least 20.5 % decreases in the bond strength and at least 13.5 % reductions in the peak slip for both the steel and FRP bar specimens. In addition, under the low-temperature freeze-thaw and chloride attack, FRP bars show better bond performance than steel bar, and BFRP bar is recommended to be adopted due to its relatively high bond strength (e.g., 2.5 times that of steel bar) and relatively small reduction of bond strength after 150 freeze-thaw cycles combined with 15 days of chloride attack (e.g., 22.1 %). Furthermore, considering the effects of low-temperature freeze-thaw and chloride attack, bond stress-slip curves between steel/BFRP/CFRP/GFRP bar and concrete are proposed based on the experiments in this study, which are verified by the experiments in other studies. © 2025
