Abstract:

Submarine pipelines are usually buried in formidable ocean environment, they are subjected to all kind of environmental loadings, in which wave loading and seismic loading are the dominant loadings. The evaluation of the pore water pressure around a buried pipeline is particularly important for pipeline engineers involved in the design of offshore pipelines. Most previous investigations of the dynamic response around an offshore pipeline have limited to one single loading. In this paper, a wave and seismic action together model including buried pipeline is established based on Finite Element Method. Based on the proposed numerical model, the effects of wave and seismic loadings on the excess pore pressure and displacement of seabed are examined. Numerical results indicated that seismic loading action plays an important role in excess pore pressure and z-displacement of the seabed while the wave loading affects the excess pore pressure distinctly and z-displacement slightly. The seismic-induced instant dynamic response is huge when earthquake occurs, and it is necessary to strengthen defense measure to avoid the destruction under the two loadings action. © 2013, EJGE.
