Abstract:
Based on a low cyclic loading test, the local performances of three one-bay, two-story partially-restrained steel frame with RC infill walls(PSRCW), including the failure mode and deformation capacity of the partially restrained connections, the infill walls and the slip between the steel frames and the infill walls and the force distribution in the structural system, were studied. The results indicate that the infill wall greatly increased the structural stiffness and reduced the rotation capacity of the partially restrained connections. If the fatigue fracture of the shear connectors can be avoided, the types of shear connectors did not have obvious effects on the behavior of the PSRCW. In order to avoid fatigue fracture of the shear connectors, it was suggested to use low grade concrete infill walls and to employ U-shaped deformed bars or channel connectors. The infill wall bore approximately 80% of the overall lateral load, and the steel frame took about 60% of the overall overturning moment.
