Abstract:

The shaking table tests are completed on a steel frame model with aspect ratio of 5 with horizontal and vertical earthquake input of different earthquake waves in this paper, and the numercial analysis of earthquake response to model structure is also performed by time history analysis method. The experiment results show that the large aspect ratio isolated structure has good isolation effect under the earthquake in two directions. Under the action of strong earthquake waves, we found that the isolation layer occured tension stress, the maximum tension stress was 3.176 MPa, however, the model structure did not overturn. We also found that the vertical earthquake input had small influence on earthquake response to isolated structure in horizontal direction. It is proposed that the influence on earthquake response to vertical earthquake input can be ignored when we analyze the earthquake response in horizontal direction for a isolated structure with aspect ratio of less than 5.
