Abstract:
Tension structures are classified as cable structures and membrane structures. In past few decades, tension structures have been used in a variety of building structures. This paper presents a current review on the developments of tension roof structures in China. Both cable-roof structures and membrane structures are discussed by introducing some practical engineering projects. Four types of cable roofs are presented: single curvature cable-suspended roofs; cable trusses; cable nets; and cable-stayed roofs. Achievements for membrane structures are summarized. Applications of membranes to various types of buildings are introduced.
