Abstract:

The influence of different configurations, such as vortex tube length, separation chamber diameter and cold plate diameter on the vortex tube performance was investigated by experiment with air as medium. The main influence of length and diameter on the vortex tube performance was obtained. The result indicates that the performance can be improved by the increase of hot tube length in a certain range. The cooling effect of vortex tube with larger separation chamber diameter is better than that with smaller diameter in the condition of higher cold mass flow fraction. The less the diameter of cold plate is, the better performance will be. The best cooling effect and heating effect occur at the diameter ratio of hot section inner diameter to cold plate hole diameter being 50%.
