Abstract:

Based on the Graesser's constitutive relations of shape memory alloy, a theoretical model for hysteretic behavior of the SMA-rubber bearing is established. By making numerical calculation with this model, we got the smooth and approximate bilinear force-displacement curves which are similar to those exhibited by the laminated rubber bearings with elastic-plastic hysteretic mechanism. After that, the predicted responses from the model match closely the experimental results. Meantime, the results show that the SMA-rubber bearing displays an evident hysteretic effect, which can be used to limit the extent of bearing displacement.
