Abstract:
To protect museum cultural relics against seismic damage, a level isolation device for cultural relics is developed. To study its isolation performances, shaking table tests are carried out. Model of showcase and replica of a ceramic cultural relics are made, the replica is set in the showcase by freestanding status. Two cases of the showcase are considered: the showcase is fixed on shaking table board; the showcase is fixed to top of the isolation device, and the free device is kept on shaking table board. Chichi earthquake waves of PGA (Peak Ground Acceleration) = 0.1 g, 0.3 g, and 0.5 g are made to act on the showcase in x and y directions. Parameters such as basic frequency, stiffness, displacement response, acceleration response, dynamic magnification coefficient, and so on, of the replica are obtained and the isolation performances of the device are verified. Results show that basic frequency of the isolation device is 0.775 Hz, with its level stiffness is 1.52 N/mm. For the replica, the isolation device makes oscillation motions which are similar to those in case of earthquakes, which overturns quickly due to overlarge amplitude. In comparison, the replica placed in the isolation device makes translation motion with much lower acceleration response, relative displacement, and magnification coefficient, which proves good performances of the isolation device. © 2016 Taylor & Francis Group, London.
