Traffic　signals　with　count-down　display　unit　at　signalized　intersections　have　been　widely　used,　reflecting　a　human　oriented　principle.　However,　the　inconsistency　between　traffic　efficiency　and　safety　should　be　taken　into　account.　The　paper　summarizes　the　types　and　characteristics　of　count-down　signal　lights,　analyzed　pedestrian＇s　choice　behavior　by　field　observations,　videos　and　questionnaires.　At　last,　it　concludes　with　pedestrians＇　preferences　and　demands　regarding　count-down　signal　lights.　We　hope　it　will　give　support　for　a　better　use　of　count-down　signals　at　signalized　intersection.　©　2012　American　Society　of　Civil　Engineering.
