Abstract:

Textures on the surface of solar glass have the potential to improve the performance of itself and the further positive effect on the photovoltaics module. However, glass substrates cannot be etched directly by 1064 nm pulsed laser due to their high transmittance to 1064 nm wavelength laser irradiation. Based on the principle of incubation and heat conductive medium, a laser induced backside etching technique and corresponding device were demonstrated respectively. By placing the solar glass in contact with solid medium and irradiation of a 1064 nm pulsed fiber laser, trenches with the average depth of 10-m and etch rate of 2.5-m per pulse have been achieved on the solar glass. Moreover, alumina ceramic wafer and Al2O3 powder are applied as different mediums in the etching. Results shows that, with a lower laser threshold fluence, laser induced backside etching procedure can be realized in two heat conduction mediums, and the etched surface structures on glass have well defined edges and low surface roughness values of less than 40nm from the 3D profiler.
