Abstract:
At the present time, the accident in tunnel remains at a high level all over the world. The traditional way of preventing road traffic accidents is mainly based on vehicle dynamics. Human factors are taken less into account. In light of this, this study takes on a 'people first' philosophy, using physiological and mental knowledge, and analyzing the relationship between the driver's physiological and mental reaction to the traffic safety of tunnel qualitatively. Eye tracking and multiple parameter physiological detectors were used to measure changes of the pupil and the heart rate as the driver drives through the tunnel, concluding that the driver feels tension when driving through the tunnel. Finally, some useful advice is given. © 2011 ASCE.
