Abstract:
Ample research on the urban road landscape in megalopolises had been conducted during the last decade. Though these studies had been developed ever since 1930, some attention is being given to it recently in China. Taking Chang'an Avenue in Beijing as a case study, the paper summarized the inscapes of urban road landscape by spot investigations. It was found that vehicles, surrounding buildings, vegetation, road surface, intersection and Crossing Square, traffic signs are all related factors which constituted the road landscape. By using image analysis and image constitutive factors analysis on Chang'an Avenue, five key factors including weather, buildings, road surface, vegetation and vehicles were extracted. The analysis results show the different feelings of the people on the road landscape in different seasons. © 2010 ASCE.
