Abstract:

Laser machining technology is applied in various industrial fields. The most attractive aspect is photovoltaic(PV) industry which has been growing rapidly in these years for the lack of energy resource. Laser with brand new advantages is going to replace the common contact tools and go beyond the productivity limits of solar panel process. In practice, laser is used to cut solar cells into pieces and remove the edges of them as a result of its high efficiency and micron dimension line scale. Laser machining technology is also playing an vital role in the process of upper and back surfaces of solar cells. Laser drilling can connects the two surface without metal on the upper, and laser nanostructure machining is applied in forming particular structures to support some advanced silicon wafer. In the procedure of producing thin film solar panel, we can gain better effects by laser etching technique. Another widely used technology is laser ablation and annealing process for thin film solar cells. Some exploratory studies have been developed recently, such as using femtosecond laser to texture on the surface of silicon thin film so that more photons can be absorbed by the cells. and etc. Laser machining technology is promised to be indispensable to the solar PV panel.
