Abstract:

The ancient buildings of China are mainly made of wood and For thousands of years they have experienced sorts of seismic forces but remain in good conditions. The characters of the ancient buildings of seismic resistance are related to their constitution: Beams are connected with columns by Tenon-Mortise joints which can produce power-wasting effects by friction and extrusion between the tenons and the mortises;Tou-Kungs(bracket sets) form a spring-like structure level, which can isolate horizontal vibration by silding and absorb vertical seismic energy by extruding; The triangle-like Roof Truss is placed above the Tou-Kung whose center is low enough to remain stable under seismic forces; The constitution of chinese ancient building for earthquake risistance is worth studying for modern people.
