Abstract:

The amount of borocarbide in high-boron low-carbon ferro-matrix alloy with 0.5%-3.0% B and 0.4% C had been analyzed after quenched at 1000°C for 2 h and tempered at 200°C for 4 h using the Leica Qwin image analysis system. The wear resistance of the alloy was measured using the ML-10 type two-body pin-on-disc wear tester and MLD-10 type three-body impact wear tester, respectively. The results showed that the effect of boron content on the volume fraction of borocarbide is in accord with the exponential curve, namely, y=7.078 e 0822x. Under the condition of two-body wearing, the wear resistance of the high-boron low-carbon ferro-matrix alloy is better than that of high chromium cast iron and increases with the increase of boron content. Under the three-body impact wearing condition, the wear resistance, for the alloy with B less than 1.5%, is higher, but slightly lower, for the alloy with B greater than 1.5%, than that of high chromium cast iron.
