Abstract:

According to the traffic flows data collection of radial roadways in Beijing, this paper quantitatively analysis the characteristics of reversible traffic congestion using the factors of traffic volume and mean speed. Based on the analysis of reversible traffic congestion, we propose some measures for improvement, including reversible guided lane at intersection, reversible guided lane on road segment and split phasing etc. , which are testified by traffic simulation. This study provides the practical guidance to resolve the Reversible traffic congestion and emergency evacuation in Beijing.
