Abstract:

Al-Er alloys containing different amount of Er were prepared by water cooling metal mould casting, the solid solubility of Er and the existing form of Er in Al-Er alloy were studied by optical microscopy, EMPA and transmission electron microscopy. The experimental results showed that Er existed in α-Al in the form of supersaturated solid solution, and distributed in grain boundaries in the form of Al3Er. The maximum solid solubility of Er was 0.1% (mass fraction) in the experimental alloys.
