Abstract:
The authors put forwarded technical approaches for suppressing smoke emitted from the polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in burning and briefly summarized the smoke suppressants available for PVC and their action mechanism. Molybdenum compounds, boron compounds, tin compounds, and zinc oxide-magnesium oxide complex are usually deemed as the main smoke suppressants suitable for PVC. In general, adding 2-4 phr of one of the smoke suppressants can reduce the smoke generation by over 30% and therefore, considerably facilitate the improvement in flame retardance of the materials.
