Abstract:
Single crystalline lithium titanium phosphate (LiTi2(PO4)(3), LTP) nanowires of variable diameters with smooth or porous surface are obtained by a sol-gel method combined with a polycarbonate porous membrane template. The obtained LTP nanowires are uniform in shape and with diameters depending on template pore sizes. The single crystalline nature of LTP nanowires are confirmed by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images and electron diffraction (ED) patterns. The porosity of LTP nanowires could be tuned by adjusting the ratio of citric acid to titanium in precursor solution. The LTP nanowire array fabricated on a platinum foil are tested as a lithium ion battery electrode for electrochemical properties, proving such nanostructure would allow high rate capacity as well as capacity retention without carbon coating.
