Abstract:
This paper presents a FPGA-based integrated controller for liquid crystal display system. The system consists of a display module and a controlling module. The former (LCM101 chip) is 10 bit multifunctional device with a WDT(watch dog timer), a dual frequency driving circuit, a display RAM and serial interface. The later is an integrated display controller using a FPGA chip of 1.5 million gate (Xilinx XC3S1500), so being easy to extend and upgrade. Integrated controller design in FPGA chip has been implemented by using Verilog language coding and verified in Xilinx Development Board. The design fits the requirements to control liquid crystal display entirely, and is successfully applied in a grating measurement system. The controller module includes four parts; storage, decoding, serial-parallel interface translation, and output controlling. This paper discusses the design method and the design process of each part above, providing Verilog codes partly. What's more a low-cost accessory is originally located between FPGA chip and power supply in hardware design to satisfy delay after liquid crystal electrify, realizing the delay of initialization command sending and saving more resource of FPGA chip.
