Abstract:
In order to study the reinforcement effect of intraply hybrid fiber reinforced polymer (IHFRP) on concrete columns, the failure mode, bearing capacity, deformation performances and stress-strain curves of various IHFRP confined concrete columns were analyzed through the tests for axial compression performances of 24 concrete columns. The results show that IHFRP can significantly improve the bearing capacity and deformation performances of the columns. For the specimens confined with the same layers of fiber reinforced polymer, the bearing capacity obviously increases with increasing the content of carbon fiber in IHFRP. Compared with the peak longitudinal strain of the specimens confined with single carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP), the peak longitudinal strain of the specimens confined with three kinds of IHFRP gets enhanced by 60% to 100%. Through comparing the IHFRP stress-strain model with the experimental curves, it is noted that the good fitting effect can be obtained. The experimental results can provide the references for the enhancement design of such components as bridge pier columns and frame columns.
