Abstract:
SMA-rubber bearing is a new type of seismic isolation device, which is composed of the laminated rubber pad and shape memory alloy (SMA) wires. The present paper outlines the working mechanism of such a new isolation device. Based on the pseudo-dynamic tests, the vertical stiffness, horizontal stiffness, energy dissipation and equivalent damping of the new isolator are studied. In addition, the effects of loading frequency, vertical pressure and amplitude of displacement on the mechanical behaviors of the new seismic isolation device are investigated in detail. The experimental results show that the SMA-rubber bearing has stable working property and excellent energy dissipation performance.
