Abstract:
To investigate self-organization rule and control measurements of bidirectional pedestrian flows, the microscopic pedestrian characteristics were analyzed under bidirectional flows based on two fundamental characteristics (walking speed and turning angle) at different volumes, by using the method of pedestrian experiments. The lane formation phenomenon was quantitatively studied and three phases were identified. Then, the optimized measures were presented which a proposal of adding separating strap was raised based on flow ratio. The efficiency and safety of the countermeasures were demonstrated through a before-and-after comparison. Thus, the proposal of adding separating strap based on flow ratio can be effective in relieving conflicts. © 2017, Editorial Department of Journal of Beijing University of Technology.
