Abstract :
Cascading failures are a critical factor affecting the reliability of industrial Internet of things (IIoT) systems. Establishing a realistic cascading failure model is of significant importance for researching and improving the reliability of IIoT. However, existing research on cascading failure modeling for IIoT lacks in-depth exploration of the actual characteristics of industrial scenarios, making it difficult to accurately characterize the cascading failure process in IIoT. In this work, based on the cyber-service coupling characteristic of IIoT systems, we establish a realistic interdependent network model, taking into full consideration the sensing-control data flow, the service community structure, and the diverse coupling patterns. On this basis, a cascading failure model for IIoT is developed, considering the routing-driven characteristic of the cyber network and the production-supply relationships among various manufacturing units in the service network. Extensive experiments are conducted to verify the rationality of the proposed model, and some meaningful findings are also obtained.

Abstract :
Characteristics like mission cycle, failure number, and failure mode act as crucial metrics for evaluating the reliabilities of products subject to various failure modes. As a result, this study develops two distinct strategies to manage product reliabilities. The first strategy focuses on managing warranty-stage reliability and employs renewable-free replacements to enhance warranty appeal. Using either the criterion of "whichever occurs first" or "whichever occurs last", this strategy is called a three-dimensional random warranty-first-or-last approach with renewable-free replacement. The second strategy involves various replacements, providing comprehensive management of post-warranty reliability. The first approach within this second type of strategy is called the bivariate random periodic replacement-first-with-corrective-replacement method. The proposed warranty can identify reliability heterogeneities, which serves as the basis for adapting the second approach within the second type of strategy. Time and cost factors are used to quantify the proposed strategies. Numerical analyses are carried out focusing on key parameters.

Abstract :
Under the influence of cascading failures, the failure of a small number of nodes or components may lead to the paralysis of the entire network system. Cascading failures have become one of the major bottlenecks constraining the long-term reliable operation of Internet of Things (IoT) systems, thus attracting extensive attention from researchers. To better understand the complex mechanisms of IoT cascading failures, diverse models and methods have been proposed. This paper systematically reviews the current research status of cascading failures in IoT, covering various aspects such as network objects, performance metrics, failure states, modeling methods, and network optimization. Additionally, we discuss the limitations in current research on cascading failures in IoT and point out the future research directions.

Abstract :
The iron and steel industry (ISI), the second largest carbon emitter, produces 16% of China's CO2 emissions, and its decarbonization will therefore play an important role in achieving the goal of carbon neutrality. This study identifies underlying low-carbon transition pathways of the ISI towards 2050, through investigating macro-level mitigation policies and technological advances. An integrated assessment model that integrates a top-down CGE method and a bottom-up objective planning method was constructed. The results show that the combination of mitigation policies and technological measures would substantially reduce CO2 emissions in the ISI, with the remaining 140 Mt to 520 Mt by 2050. Carbon mitigation in ISI in the short term mainly benefits from the technology retrofitting, the reduction of steel demand, which accounts for 17.8 % and 32.1 %, respectively. Breakthrough technologies of scrap-based electric arc furnace (EAF), hydrogen-based direct reduction (HDREAF) and carbon capture and storge (CCS), would play a fundamental role in reducing the CO2 emissions especially after 2030, contributing to 32.1 %, 16.0 % and 13.8 % of emission reduction, respectively. Of the 41technologies assessed, 8-key technologies jointly mitigate over 55% of CO2 emissions. The cost-effectiveness and mitigation potential of technologies would provide reference to policymaker for the mitigation in China's ISI.

Abstract :
As the world's largest coal consumer, China's coal consumption in 2021 was 2934.4 million tons of standard coal. Thermal coal occupies an important position in the coal market and industry system, as an important raw material in the power industry, steel industry and other industries. The price of thermal coal in 2021 was at its highest level in a decade, and reached a historical level of about 2587.5 yuan per ton in October 2021. In the same month, the government intervened in the thermal coal price, which fell 51.9% by the end of the year under the influence of the policy. In previous studies, there has been little research on thermal coal and the impact of the variable "policy" on the thermal coal price. Thus, this paper analyzed the factors that affect the price fluctuation of thermal coal, and the impact of economic policy uncertainty on the thermal coal price. The cointegration test and forecast-error variance decomposition (FEVD) are adopted in this study. Our results show that the impact of policy uncertainty on the thermal coal price gradually increases over time, but the impact of policy uncertainty on price is negative and not as strong as expected. On the contrary, inventory and other energy prices have a greater positive impact on the price of thermal coal. The results of this study are of significance for the prediction of thermal coal prices in the future.

Abstract :
Inspection is usually carried out periodically to update a system state such that the optimal maintenance policy can be determined. In order to obtain the best inspection and maintenance policy, existing research is focused on improving the modeling accuracy of the system failure process. Little work has been devoted to making full use of the system idle time, which is known as the production wait in production systems. In this research, the failure process of a single-unit system is modeled in three stages with consideration of its production wait time. The objective of minimizing the long-run average maintenance cost per unit time is achieved by finding the optimal length of the periodic inspection interval and renewal age for this single-unit system. By comparing this model with two two-stage inspection models, the numerical study of a real steelmaking converter confirms both the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed inspection and maintenance model. Furthermore, the sensitivity analysis of different parameters is conducted to explore the optimal choice of maintenance strategy for different cost parameters and degradation parameters. The analysis provides useful management insights for decision-makers.

Abstract :
With the emergence of the industrial internet of things, distributed data storage systems have become widely used to store the monitoring data of power generation systems. Malicious hackers often try to destroy or steal these confidential data by illegally invading the systems. In addition to hackers' illegal intrusions, the availability of the data stored is also affected by the internal failures of the system. In this research, two reliability models are formulated to study the reliability of a phased-mission distributed data storage system considering internal failures and illegal intrusion. The first model considers internal failures and data destruction, whereas the second model further considers data theft. Furthermore, the allocation of the data partitions is optimized so that system reliability can be maximized. Numerical experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed models and algorithms.

Abstract :
The parallel structure in the reliability engineering is widely used in many industrial systems such as power generation systems, pump systems, production systems and computing systems. Designing the optimal maintenance policies for these parallel systems can minimize the operation cost while achieving a satisfying system availability. Previous studies have studied various maintenance optimization for parallel systems. However, little research has considered the multiple failure modes that widely exist in many real industrial systems. This research considers a parallel system that consists of heterogeneous components subject to two types of competing failures: a one-stage catastrophic failure and a two-stage delay-time failure. Inspections are conducted periodically to identify the state of each component. Three maintenance policies are proposed in this research. To find the optimal inspection interval, we analyze the renewal process of the system to minimize the long-term expected cost per unit time. A simulation procedure is proposed to evaluate the long-term expected cost per unit time. Numerical experiments are carried out to illustrate the applications of the proposed maintenance policies. The discussion provides useful insights on choosing the best policy under different system performance requirements.

Abstract :
In this paper, we consider a repairable circular consecutive-k-out-of-n: F retrial system, which can be used to simulate the intelligent closed recurring water cooling automation system in industrial production. We assume that the working time and retrial time of each component obey exponential distributions, and the repair time obeys a general distribution. Based on the generalized transition probability and the key component priority repair rule of the retrial system, the availability and reliability indices of the general repairable circular consecutive-k-out-of-n: F retrial system are derived by using the methods of supplementary variable and Laplace transform. Furthermore, we calculate the explicit expressions of the above indices when n and k are fixed at definite values in the system. The repair time is assumed to follow a Weibull distribution in examples demonstration, and the influence of various parameters on system reliability, steady-state availability and other indices are obtained. The sensitivity and relative sensitivity analysis of the steady-state availability, steady-state failure frequency and mean time to first failure (MTTFF) of the system are also performed.
