Dispersion Performances of Naphthalimides Doped in Dual Temperature- and pH-Sensitive Poly (N-Isopropylacrylamide-co-acrylic Acid) Shell Assembled with Vinyl-Modified Mesoporous SiO2 Core for Fluorescence Cell Imaging SCIE

Abstract :

Developing effective intelligent nanocarriers is highly desirable for fluorescence imaging and therapeutic applications but remains challenging. Using a vinyl-grafted BMMs (bimodal mesoporous SiO2 materials) as a core and PAN ((2-aminoethyl)-6-(dimethylamino)-1H-benzo[de]isoquinoline-1,3(2H)-dione))-dispersed dual pH/thermal-sensitive poly(N-isopropylacrylamide-co-acrylic acid) as a shell, PAN@BMMs with strong fluorescence and good dispersibility were prepared. Their mesoporous features and physicochemical properties were extensively characterized via XRD patterns, N-2 adsorption-desorption analysis, SEM/TEM images, TGA profiles, and FT-IR spectra. In particular, their mass fractal dimension (d(m)) features based on SAXS patterns combined with fluorescence spectra were successfully obtained to evaluate the uniformity of the fluorescence dispersions, showing that the d(m) values increased from 2.49 to 2.70 with an increase of the AN-additive amount from 0.05 to 1%, along with the red shifting of their fluorescent emission wavelength from 471 to 488 nm. The composite (PAN@BMMs-I-0.1) presented a densification trend and a slight decrease in peak (490 nm) intensity during the shrinking process. Its fluorescent decay profiles confirmed two fluorescence lifetimes of 3.59 and 10.62 ns. The low cytotoxicity obtained via in vitro cell survival assay and the efficient green imaging performed via HeLa cell internalization suggested that the smart PAN@BMM composites are potential carriers for in vivo imaging and therapy.

Amphipathic Solvent-Assisted Synthetic Strategy for Random Lamellae of the Clinoptilolites with Flower-like Morphology and Thinner Nanosheet for Adsorption and Separation of CO2 and CH4 SCIE

Abstract :

The random lamellae of the synthetic CP were synthesized with a hydrothermal approach using o-Phenylenediamine (OPD) as a modifier. The decreases in the order degree of the CP synthesized in the presence of the OPD resulted from the loss of long-range order in a certain direction. Subsequently, the ultrasonic treatment and washing were conducive to further facilitate the disordered arrangements of its lamellae. The possible promotion mechanism regarding the nucleation and growth behaviors of the sol-gel particles was proposed. The fractal evolutions of the aluminosilicate species with crystallization time implied that the aluminosilicate species became gradually smooth to rough during the crystallization procedures since the amorphous structures transformed into flower-like morphologies. Their gas adsorption and separation performances indicated that the adsorption capacity of CO2 at 273 K reached up to 2.14 mmol & BULL;g(-1) at 1 bar, and the selective factor (CO2/CH4) up to 3.4, much higher than that of the CPs synthesized without additive OPD. The breakthrough experiments displayed a longer breakthrough time and enhancement of CO2 uptake, showing better performance for CO2/CH4 separation. The cycling test further highlighted their efficiency for CO2/CH4 separation.

Abstract :

Clinoptilolite (CP) was successfully synthesized via a hydrothermal route in the presence of polyethylene glycol (PEG), and it was then delaminated by washing using Zn2+ containing acid. HKUST-1, as one kind of the Cu-based MOFs, showed a high CO2 adsorption capacity owing to its large pore volume and specific surface area. In the present work, we selected one of the most efficient ways for preparing the HKUST-1@CP compounds via coordination between exchanged Cu2+ and ligand (trimesic acid). Their structural and textural properties were characterized by XRD, SAXS, N-2 sorption isotherms, SEM, and TG-DSC profiles. Particularly, the effect of the additive PEG (average molecular weight of 600) on the induction (nucleation) periods and growth behaviors were detailed and investigated in the hydrothermal crystallization procedures of synthetic CPs. The corresponding activation energies of induction (E-n) and growth (E-g) periods during crystallization intervals were calculated. Meanwhile, the pore size of the inter-particles of HKUST-1@CP was 14.16 nm, and the BET specific area and pore volume were 55.2 m(2)/g and 0.20 cm(3)/g, respectively. Their CO2 and CH4 adsorption capacities and selectivity were preliminarily explored, showing 0.93 mmol/g for HKUST-1@CP at 298 K with the highest selective factor of 5.87 for CO2/CH4, and the dynamic separation performance was evaluated in column breakthrough experiments. These results suggested an efficient way of preparing zeolites and MOFs composites that is conducive to being a promising adsorbent for applications in gas separation.

Explorations on Thermodynamic and Kinetic Performances of Various Cationic Exchange Durations for Synthetic Clinoptilolite SCIE

Abstract :

Various cation-exchanged clinoptilolites (M-CPs, M = Li+, Cs+, Ca2+, Sr2+) were prepared, and their exchanged thermodynamic (and kinetic) properties and adsorption performances for CH4, N-2, and CO2 were investigated. The results demonstrated that the relative crystallinity of M-CPS decreased with the increase of exchange times. Their chemisorbed water weight loss gradually increased with the increasing exchange times, except that of Cs-x-CP. The Delta(r)G(m)(theta) values of exchange process of Li+, Cs+, Ca2+, or Sr-2 presented the increased trend with the enhanced exchange times, but they decreased as the temperature increased. The negative Delta(r)G(m)(theta) values and the positive Delta H-r(m)theta and Delta S-r(m)theta values suggested that the exchanged procedure belonged to spontaneous, endothermic, and entropy-increasing behaviors; their kinetic performances followed a pseudo-second-order model. However, the calculated E-a values of exchange process showed the increased tendencies with the enhanced exchange times, indicating that the exchange process became more difficult. Finally, the preliminary adsorption results indicated that the maximum adsorption amount at 273 K and 1 bar was 0.51 mmol/g of CH4 and 0.38 mmol/g of N-2 by (Na, K)-CP, and 2.32 mmol/g of CO2 by Li-6-CP.

Abstract :

In order to understand the growth behaviors of the aluminosilicate species in the initial hydrothermal process and thereafter synthesis of clinoptilolites with high purity, the physicochemical characteristics of the aluminosilicate nanoparticles were elucidated by small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, Ultra-Violet Raman (UV-Raman) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra. The results demonstrated that the aluminosilicate nanoparticles presented the first decreased surface fractal (D-s) values and then an increased D-s values in the initial reaction time of before 120 h. After that, the fractal transformations from D-s to mass fractal (D-m) occurred with the extensions of reaction time (120-144 h), but the decreased D-m values appeared after 144 h. Therefore, their growth mechanisms from uniform dispersions to aggregation, and even assembly were proposed.

Fabrication of Functionalized UiO-66 Anchored on Disorderly Layered Clinoptilolite via Surfactant-Assisted Induction for Selective Adsorption of CO2 and CH4 SCIE

Abstract :

The amine (NH2)-functionalized UiO-66 was successfully anchored on disorderly layered clinoptilolite (CP) via surfactant (poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and poly(vinylpyrrolidone) (PVP))-assisted induction. The structural features and physicochemical parameters of the resultant UiO-66-on-CPs were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, scanning/transmission electron microscopy (SEM/TEM) images, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectra, N-2 sorption isotherms, and small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) patterns. The results demonstrated that the growth of UiO-66-NH2 nanoparticles facilitated the disorder degree of the crystal plane of CP along the a-axis, while the addition of PEG in the hydrothermal synthesis system of CP was conducive to the formation of a flower-like microstructure and the introduction of PVP was beneficial to the nucleation and growth of UiO-66-NH2 nanoparticles with a small size (40 nm) on the surfaces of the obtained CP-PEG lamellas. Finally, the gas-selective adsorption and separation performances of CO2 and CH4 were evaluated using the synthesized disorderly layered UiO-66-on-CP heterostructures as adsorbents, indicating that the NH2-functionalized UiO-66-on-CP exhibited a superior selective factor (3.66) of CO2/CH4. These results elucidated that the proposed approach is a promising strategy for constructing MOF-on-zeolite heterostructures, which may open an avenue to expand CP application and improve their performance.

Cationic surfactant-assisted delamination of disorderly layered clinoptilolites for selective adsorption of CO2 and CH4 SCIE

Abstract :

With the assistance of cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB), the delamination of disorderly layered cli-noptilolite (CP) was performed. The introduction of CTAB in hydrothermal system was beneficial to stratification of CP lamellas by enlarging interlayer spacing, and thus accelerating the formation of disordered CP nanosheets. The hydrophobic alkyl chain restricts the crystal growth along a-axis and the few-layer CP lamellas with inte-grally preserved heulandite structures were obtained by ultrasonic treatment and HNO3 modification at room temperature. Meanwhile, the CTAB-assisted crystallization mechanism was further elucidated, in which, the amorphous spherical nanoparticles were firstly generated and then transformed into the fibrous and lamellar species. Finally, the flower-like CP morphologies with the aggregated nanosheets appeared. Meanwhile, the selective adsorptions and separations of CO2 and CH4 using these delaminated CPs as the absorbents were preliminarily explored, showing a strong potential in the mixed gases separation applications. This approach is a promising strategy for constructing delaminated zeolites with low n(SiO2/Al2O3), which may open a new avenue for the delaminated CP nanosheet applications in gas adsorption and separation fields.

Abstract :

The constructed strategy of the disorderly layered UiO-66-on-clinoptilolite heterostructures was proposed through assistance of polyethylene glycol (PEG) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). Their physicochemical properties were demonstrated via various characterizations, such as X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) patterns and scanning/transmission electron microscope (SEM/TEM) images. Particularly, the small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) method was employed to elucidate their fractal structure evolutions, manifesting the transformations of surface fractal with irregularity and roughness. The results showed that the PEG introduction was beneficial to the formation of disorderly layered clinoptilolites (CP). The particles sizes of UiO-66-NH2 were successfully controlled via additive PVP, and the interactions between UiO-66-NH2 and deposited CP-PEG were enhanced. The preliminarily adsorption performances of the obtained UiO-66-on-CPs exhibited a superior selective factor (around 26) of CO2/CH4. This approach may open a new avenue to improve its adsorption selective performance for CO2 and CH4 due to its dual microporous features and enlarged lamellar spacing.

Comparison of mesoporous fractal characteristics of silica-supported organocatalysts derived from bipyridine-proline and resultant effects on the catalytic asymmetric aldol performances SCIE

Abstract :

Three kinds of the bipyridine-proline chiral ligands as highly active species were successfully introduced on Zn-modified mesoporous silica nanomaterials (BMMs, MCM-41, and SBA-15) via the covalent attachment and coordination methods. Their microstructural features and physicochemical properties were extensively characterized via XRD patterns, SEM/TEM images, TGA profiles, FT-IR and UV-Vis spectra. In particular, their fractal features, the pair distance distribution function, and the Porod plots were evaluated thoroughly on the basis of the SAXS data. Meanwhile, their catalytic performances for asymmetric aldol reactions between p-nitrobenzaldehyde and cyclohexanone were evaluated. The results indicated that the bimodal mesoporous BMMs-based samples with short worm-like mesoporous channels possessed both mass and surface fractal features, whereas the MCM-41- and SBA-15-based samples with long-range ordered structures only showed surface fractal features. The influences of various reaction parameters, including the textures of the mesoporous silicas, the structures of the used chiral ligands, and the molecular volumes of aldehydes, on the catalytic activities (yield) and stereoselectivities (dr and ee) were investigated thoroughly. The results showed satisfactory activities (yields) and better stereoselectivity (dr and ee) in comparison with the homogeneous catalytic system using Z as the catalysts. In particular, the 3(rd) recycle catalytic performances of the Z-immobilized heterogeneous catalysts retained high catalytic yields (around 80%) and ee values of 28%. These phenomena were well interpreted by the essential relationships between the fractal characteristics of these heterogeneous catalysts and their catalytic activities.

Abstract :

Using acrylic acid (AA) as pH-responsive monomer, and N-isopropyl acrylamide (NIPAM) as temperatureresponsive monomer, the stimuli-responsive P(NIPAM-co-AA) copolymers were prepared via soap-free emulsion polymerization. Their constructed porous structures, swelling-shrinking behaviors, and controlled drug delivery performances were systematically demonstrated via various characterizations. Particularly, the smallangle X-ray scattering (SAXS) method was employed to elucidate their fractal features and the structural evolutions with increasing AA content, showing the occurrences from dense aggregates (mass fractal (Dm) value of 2.92) to loose networks (surface fractal (Ds) value of 2.18) with statistical self-similarity. Meanwhile, the ibuprofen (IBU) was used as a model drug, their temperature/pH-dual sensitive delivery and related mechanism were discussed on the basis of the fractal demonstrations. The results showed that the cross-linking networks with an interconnected open-cell skeleton and abundant large pores were beneficial to improve the adsorptiondiffusion performances of the drug delivery, while the drug-releasing kinetics of P(NIPAM-co-AA)-30 followed a non-Fickian diffusion mechanism. Specially, the fractal evolutions of the obtained copolymers along with the drug loading and releasing behaviors were evaluated via SAXS patterns. In which, the drug-loaded copolymers presented the Ds characteristics with the increased amounts of monomer AA added. While, the fractal features varied from Ds value of 2.40 to Dm value of 2.76 along with sustained drug releasing in pH 2.0 at 25 degrees C, indicating that the structural transformation of the used copolymers occurred from dense (Dm value of 2.86) to loose (Dm value of 2.76) with the extension of release time. These demonstrations suggested that the resultant P(NIPAM-coAA) hydrogel is a potential intelligent-responsive drug carrier for targeted delivery.
