Experimental study on the steel-concrete bond behaviour of circular concrete-filled stainless steel tubes SCIE

Abstract :

The paper reports an experimental investigation on the bond stress-slip relationship in concrete-filled stainless steel tube (CFSST) structures. Push-out tests were conducted on twelve specimens covering two stainless steel grades, two concrete grades, two cross-sectional dimensions and two internal ring conditions (with and without the internal ring). The effects of these factors on the bond stress-slip relationship in CFSST members were analysed and discussed. A theoretical model, based on the assumption that no restraining force from the steel tube was applied to the concrete core, was developed to predict the bond stress-slip response of CFSSTs and was evaluated against the test results. An empirical model was also proposed based on regression analysis to replicate the experimental bond stress-slip relationships, which can be used as input data for analytical and numerical simulations in future studies of CFSST structures.

Experimental study on bearing behavior of concrete-filled square stainless steel tubular stub columns under axial compression EI

Abstract :

In this paper, the compressive behavior of concrete-filled stainless steel tubular (CFSST) stub columns has been investigated through an experimental program. A total of 24 specimens, including nine austenitic CFSST, nine duplex CFSST stub columns and six stainless steel tubes of corresponding cross-section size, were tested under axial compression. Load-axial displacement curves, load-strain curves and failure modes were measured during the tests. The results show that all CFSST stub columns fail in the form of waist drum failure mode, and the stainless steel tubes fail in local buckling mode with two sides of steel tube bulging and two sides being concave. The bearing capacity of specimens under axial compression increases with the increase of the thickness of stainless steel tube and the strength of concrete. The test results are compared with the predicted load values by codes BS EN 1994-1-1, ANSI/AISC 360-10, AIJ-CFT 1997, GB 50936-2014 and DBJ 13-51-2003, indicating that the predicted load values by BS EN 1994-1-1 are closest to the test results. © 2021, Editorial Office of Journal of Building Structures. Free vibration and buckling of eccentric rotating FG-GPLRC cylindrical shell using first-order shear deformation theory SCIE

Abstract :

The eccentric rotating cylindrical shell structure has an important application prospect in aerospace engineering field, such as space annular antenna. In this paper, the dynamic model of an eccentric rotating functionally graded grapheme platelets reinforced composite (FG-GPLRC) cylindrical shell based on the first-order shear deformation theory is established. The free vibration and buckling analyses of the eccentric rotating FGGPLRC cylindrical shell under the axial excitation are presented. Taking into account the influences of the Coriolis force and centrifugal force caused by eccentric rotation. Considering five grapheme platelets (GPLs) distribution patterns of the FG-GPLRC cylindrical shell, and the modified Halpin-Tsai model is used to calculate the effective Young's modulus. By utilizing the Hamilton principle, the first-order shear deformation shell theory and the von-Karman type nonlinear geometric relationships, a system of the partial differential governing equations for the eccentric rotating FG-GPLRC cylindrical shell is derived. Then, the ordinary differential equations of the cylindrical shell are obtained according to Galerkin method. The influences of the GPLs distribution pattern, weight fraction, eccentric distance, ratio of radius to thickness, ratio of length to radius, as well as rotating speed of the eccentric rotating FG-GPLRC cylindrical shell on the buckling and free vibration behaviors are discussed.

Investigation on the influence of welding processeson mechanical properties of stainless steelfillet weld connections EI

Abstract :

In order to study the effect of different welding processes on mechanical properties of stainless steel fillet weld connections, the monotonic tensile tests of 12 austenitic and 12 duplex stainless steel specimens were carried out. The results show that the failure surface of specimens made by TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas Welding) is quite different from that of specimens made by SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding), and the latter is much smoother. Besides, the true failure angle of the transverse fillet weld connections is not the theoretical value of 45° due to the influence of the complex stress. For austenitic stainless steel, the strength ratios of specimens made by TIG to SMAW are 1.03 (for transverse fillet weld connections) and 1.13 (for longitudinal fillet weld connections), and the ratios of relative deformation are 1.46 and 1.11. For duplex stainless steel, the strength ratios are 1.12 and 1.04, meanwhile the relative deformation ratios are 1.66 and 1.45. The connections made by TIG show better mechanical properties. For the two stainless steel, the strengths of transverse fillet weld connections are much better than those of the longitudinal fillet weld connections, so it is suggested that the influence of the increase of the strength of transverse fillet weld connections be taken into account in the compilation or revision of the related specifications. In this paper, the dynamic model of an eccentric rotating carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) laminated cylindrical shell based on the first-order shear deformation theory is established for the first time. The buckling and free vibration analyses of the eccentric rotating CFRP laminated cylindrical shell under the axial excitation are presented. Taking into account the influences of Coriolis force and centrifugal force caused by eccentric rotation. By utilizing the Hamilton principle, the first-order shear deformation theory and the von-Karman type nonlinear geometric relationship, a system of the partial differential governing equations for the eccentric rotating CFRP laminated cylindrical shell is derived. The present method are validated by carrying out some comparisons with the existing results in the published literatures. The natural frequencies and critical buckling loads of the system are solved numerically. Abstract :

This study investigated the seismic performance of welded stainless steel H-section columns. Ten columns were tested under cyclic horizontal load; their seismic performance was analyzed according to their hysteresis curves, degree of plasticity, and energy dissipation capacity. The test results obtained were used to validate the developed finite-element (Feb) model, which was later utilized in parametric studies. In the tests, it was found that the final failure form of all test columns was local buckling. Slenderness of the component plates and axial load ratio were the governing factors which affected the development of plasticity within the cross sections, the energy dissipation density, and the ductility coefficient. The cross-section classification in the relevant European code is discussed in this paper. Based on numerical data, a ductility-based design approach is proposed, which can provide a reference for the seismic design of welded stainless steel H-section columns. Abstract :

To further develop connection techniques in prefabricated steel building structures as well as deconstructable steel structures, a novel blind bolted connection with traditional high-strength (HS) bolt is introduced herein, and five slip-critical ones are designed. Based on a shearing test, their torque coefficient, slip coefficient, shear capacity and shear mechanism are investigated, and the test results are compared with design values in accordance with standard for the design of steel structures GB 50017−2017. The finite element model for the HS bolted connection is developed with ABAQUS, and its accuracy and applicability are verified against the test results. Parametric analyses are carried out. It is indicated that this new blind bolted connection with HS bolt is favourable to installation and disassembly. During the shear loading process, the loose of pretension within the bolts is up to 15%~20%, and current national standard is generally still adequate for predicting slip coefficient and shear capacity of such bolted connections. Research outcomes obtained may provide an important basis for the utilization of such novel blind bolted connections in practice. Copyright ©2021 Engineering Mechanics. All rights reserved.

Abstract :

  采用有限元软件ABAQUS对不锈钢圆管轴心受压短柱的局部稳定性能进行了数值模拟,重点考察了构件径厚比、材料力学性能、残余应力和几何初始缺陷等因素的影响。分析结果表明:当径厚比增加时,构件的截面强度呈下降趋势;随着材料名义屈服强度的增加,截面强度也逐渐增大;残余应力对构件截面强度影响较小,可以忽略;几何初始缺陷会降低构件的截面强度,且该影响随着径厚比的增加而增大。

  汇总国内外关于非线性金属结构材料轴压柱相关稳定试验数据,采用有限元软件ABAQUS创建精细数值模型,并对模型的准确性进行验证。基于验证可靠的有限元模型,研究材料归一化屈服强度、应变硬化指数、几何初始缺陷和焊接残余应力对相关稳定承载力的影响。结合试验数据和有限元分析结果,提出相关稳定承载力的直接强度法修正计算公式,对建议公式的可靠度分析表明其满足国家标准GB 50068的要求。

  近年来,3D打印技术得到了国内外学者的广泛关注,在多个领域得到快速发展。与传统制造技术相比,金属结构3D打印技术具有成形自由度高、节约材料等优势。本文主要对四种3D打印金属材料的工程应用情况、增材制造技术,及其材性、构件与结构的力学性能研究进展进行了总结,并对3D打印金属结构的未来研究方向以及在建筑工程领域的应用前景进行了展望。
