Abstract:
Thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) were produced by solution precursor plasma spraying(SPPS) that used aqueous solution of zirconium and yttrium salt as raw materials. The failure of thermal barrier coatings involves many factors. Furthermore, the mechanical properties of ceramics are related to these factors. The mechanical properties of the sprayed coatings were characterized by SEM, XRD and Hardness Tester. The Young's modulus and microhardness of the segmented coating were measured to be about 58 GPa and 7 GPa, relatively higher than 15% with those of the traditional coating respectively. The fracture toughness is 1.8-2 MPa•m1/2 and tensile strength is 25 MPa by an indentation technique. The lower porosity and better lamellar bonding of the segmented coating could be responsible for the improvement of the mechanical properties. © 2017, Chinese Ceramic Society. All right reserved.
