Abstract:
Multipod ZnO-multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)-reduced graphene (RGO) ternary nanocomposites were synthesised via a simple one-pot hydrothermal process using graphene oxide (GO)-dispersed MWCNT and zinc nitrate hexahydrate as raw materials. The synthesised nanocomposites were characterised by SEM, XRD and Raman spectroscopy. The prepared nanocomposite was used for glassy carbon electrode surface modification and performed for electrochemical removal of MTBE in a lab-scale bath electrolyser. Study showed electrochemical removal of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) can be conducted either through direct oxidation, water electrolysis competition or indirect oxidation. The surface modification highly enhanced the degradation process.
