Abstract:

The paper presents shaking table tests on reinforced concrete shear wall structures with and without concealed bracings. Two different models were studied and the test programme investigated the structures in the elastic, cracking and final failure stages. Dynamic characteristics and responses of the structures at different stages were determined experimentally, and a comparison of failure modes is presented. Results from the tests indicate that prior to the concrete cracking stage, the seismic performance of a shear wall structure with concealed bracings is similar to that without concealed bracings (those without bracings). After the concrete starts cracking, the seismic resistance of shear wall structures with concealed bracings is much better than that of those without bracings. The displacement response of the shear wall structures with concealed bracings is much smaller than that of those without bracings on the ground floor, and the distribution area of cracks in shear wall structures with concealed bracing is higher than that of those without bracings.
