Abstract:
The research focuses on the microstructural deformation and effective properties of the orthotropic composites with non-symmetric shaped inclusion. The stress, strain and strain energy are homogenized by the volume average concept. The microstructural deformation of the unit cell under the constraint of the periodic boundary condition is demonstrated by the finite element analysis and the effective properties of the composites are calculated. The numerical investigations are given in order to compare the different homogenization methods of the stress and strain energy. This research shows the consistence of the average methods of the stress and strain energy for the composite under specific strain boundary condition. (C) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
