Abstract:
Research on workload measurement of the air traffic controllers has attracted much attention in the air traffic management community because of its important role for the human resource planning, running efficiency, and especially the safety of the air traffic system. Recently, traditional ATM has encountered some challenging problems, such as the substantial increase of the flights number, the more complex airspace, sensitivity to the change of weather, and interaction among the factors mentioned above. Accordingly, The method, ATCs' workload measurement method based on air traffic complexity, has gradually become the leading one. This paper reviews the process of research on ATCs' workload measurement, and focuses on three aspects of the ATCs' workload measurement based on air traffic complexity, including typical models, research methods and some important achievements. It also points out some existing problems which remain to be solved and gives some preliminary ideas for future research.
