Abstract:

To improve the inherent design shortcomings of the traditional anaerobic/anoxic/nitrification(A(2)N) process, a modified A(2)N process was proposed. The modified A(2)N process was used to treat real municipal wastewater to evaluate the nutrogen removal in traditional and modified process and the effect of aeration rate in hybrid biofilm reactor on the modified A(2)N process was investigated. The result showed that the TN removal efficiency was 81.9% in traditional process. The satisfied nutrient removal performance was achieved when the modified process was applied with bigger aeration rate (0.1m(3).h(-1)) in hybrid bioflim reactor. The ammonia removal efficiency increased to nearly 100% and the TN removal efficiency increased to 91.3%. The simultaneous nitrification and denitrification (SND) is maxmium contribution to the better TN removal performance. However, with increasing the aeration rate to 0.4 m(3).h(-1), the SND was destroyed in hybrid biofilm reactor. It concluded that the modified A(2)N process was feasible and has a stable and satisfied nutrient removal via controlling aeration rate in the hybrid biofilm reactor.
