Abstract:
Truss elements are widely used to model compression rods of prestressed spatial structures with commercial FEA softwares. The deficiency of the modeling method was that the rod buckling behaviour can not be considered. To overcome it, a new modeling method in which rods were modeled with several beam elements considering the initial equivalent imperfections was presented. The buckling analysis of a BSS shows that the interaction of actual buckling behavior of compression rods with that of the structure can be considered by the new method, and it is an appropriate and valid method to model the prestressed spatial structures with commercial FEA softwares.
