Abstract:
Ordered mesoporous samarium oxide (meso-Sm2O3) and europium oxide (meso-Eu2O3) have been synthesized using mesoporous pure silica KIT-6 as hard template under ultrasonic irradiation, and characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), high-resolution transmission electron microscopic (HRTEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), N-2 adsorption-desorption, and ultraviolet-visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (UV-vis DRS). It is found that the fabricated meso-Sm2O3 and meso-Eu2O3 materials possessed three-dimensionally (3D) mesoporous structures with polycrystalline walls, a surface area of 134-166 m(2)/g, and an average pore diameter of 8.7-9.4 nm. The large surface areas and unique optical properties suggest that these mesoporous rare earth oxides have promising applications in optics and catalysis.
