Abstract:
Much attention was paid on the selection of damping parameters for complex structures during nonlinear time-history response analysis. In the paper, study was made on the applicability of damping method to complex bridges. While analyzing seismic response of complex bridges, comparative analysis between the Rayleigh's damping method and strain-energy proportional damping method was carried out, and the applicability of two methods was discussed. For the complex type of bridges, the precision of damping parameters from the strain-energy proportional damping method is higher than that from Rayleigh's damping method, and the using of strain-energy proportional damping method is desirable.
