Abstract:
Dynamic properties and resisting penetration ability of the metal foams and foam core sandwich structures, including the deformation principle under impact load and its influencing factors, are reviewed in the paper. Compared with the general metals, the metal foams have a series of special mechanical properties because of pores, such as great condensability, compressing plateau stress and Poisson's ratio variation. The good comprehensive mechanical properties (mainly stiffness and intensity) and low density are its most advantages. Moreover, the future development and investigation trends are presented. The intention of this review is to enable the reader to know the published results about metal foams under dynamic load.
