Abstract:
There are many digital signal processing algorithms used in processing biomedical signals. In a typical biomedical engineering design course, normally students have limited design opportunity. In order to improve the teaching effect, here at the Beijing University of Technology, the "Biomedical signal processing" laboratory setups were designed with project-based learning on MATLAB language, which has simple grammar, rich graphic displaying function and powerful toolboxes for various signal processing algorithms. Two representative projects of analyzing ECG signals and processing of brain MR images are presented to illustrate its applications in different aspects of biomedical signal processing. The result showed that project-based learning with MATLAB will encourage students to have a better undersatnding of existing algorithms and boost the students' learning curve in the course.
