Abstract:
In order to clarify the pounding effect and its influence of curved girder bridges under near-fault ground motions, a 1/10 scale model and an adjustable pounding test device were designed and manufactured for a small radius ramp bridge. Shaking table tests under unidirectional and bidirectional excitations were completed by selecting near-fault and far-field ground motions in the same earthquake. The results show that the pounding effect (pounding number and pounding force) of curved girder bridges under near-fault ground motion is significantly greater than that under far-field ground motion, and the increase of pounding effect will increase the displacement response of the support, which increases the risk of bearing failure or beam falling, and the influence of bidirectional ground motion is greater; pounding effect significantly increases the tangential displacement peak value of side pier and middle pier along the direction of pounding force, enlarges the effective root mean square displacement response of the test pier, and increases the damage risk of test model bridge piers in the direction of pounding force. Pounding effect induced by near-fault ground motion should be considered in seismic design of curved bridges. © 2020, Editorial Office of Journal of Vibration and Shock. All right reserved.
